Growing Up. No we are not yet to a birthday milestone, but we have experienced a couple of developmental milestones that I need to mention. Both milestones could be used as indicators of a child coming out of "babyhood" and into "childhood".
First, potty training has been a long road for us - not that it has been bad or that the girls don't enjoy having dry pants - but it seems like we have been doing this for 1 1/2 years now! Both Sydney and Abigail have been out of diapers for short times at home for a few months now, but we dare not take them in public or school without pull-ups because they forget. For instance, the girls were helping Daddy plant tomato plants in our garden beds yesterday and one of the girls (who will remain nameless) forgot to inform, sat down, had a very pleasant look on her face, and wet her pants. No big deal, but we wonder when they will start remembering. Our milestone has come over the past couple of weeks when Mama is at home with the girls all day - no diapers all day, even during naptime, and they have been telling us when they need to go! We are very proud.
Last weekend brought the second milestone of our girls' lives, which I am sure they learned from one of their school friends...the "why" word. Many of you with young children remember this time in your kids life - your every action or statement is questioned. Of course, the "why" game is a great way for the girls to learn, but it seems like their minds are never at ease. I think it started this past weekend, on Saturday morning, when one of the girls asked "You going to work today, Daddy?". I explained that it was Saturday, Daddy's day off, and that I would be with my girls all day...which was followed by "Why?" Oh, boy...
